Supporting Ovarian Cancer Knowledge (SOCK) was founded by the late Jane Keating following her diagnosis with ovarian cancer in August 2009 at the young age of 28. Jane vowed to promote awareness of ovarian cancer amongst the women of Ireland. SOCK is a non-profit organisation and is dedicated to raising funds for research into and awareness of ovarian cancer.
SOCK became very aware that there are leaflets in doctors’ surgeries in relation to breast cancer, lung cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer etc., however, not for ovarian cancer. In fact, SOCK noticed that there was no information available to women in relation to the symptoms of ovarian cancer. This lack of information can lead to misdiagnosis and late diagnosis. In addition, lack of information is one of the reasons why many women believe that smear tests which test for cervical cancer will identify ovarian cancer when in fact this is not the case. SOCK is not sponsored by a government body which means we are totally reliant on fund raising activities to fund initiatives and research. We are delighted to have partnered with Pairz ® and are overwhelmed by the positive response so far. Through this partnership we hope to make a real difference, and educate people all over the world by providing the knowledge needed to tackle this illness at full force, ensuring Jane's legacy lives on.
